Cyclonic storm Mocha in the Bay of Bengal can be very dangerous. The Meteorological Department has expressed apprehensions that winds of up to 150 kilometers per hour may blow in the coastal areas due to the impact of the cyclone, causing heavy loss of life and property.
The cyclone is likely to move towards coastal areas on Wednesday evening. On May 14 and 15, it will have a speed of around 150 kmph and will pass over the coastal areas via Bangladesh-Myanmar.
According to the Meteorological Department, coastal areas of West Bengal, including Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas and East and West Medinipur, apart from Kolkata, will receive rain with heavy thundershowers from evening on May 12 and 13.
On Thursday, the cyclone will become stronger and rains will increase. Although the Meteorological Department has expressed its apprehension, Bangladesh and Myanmar may be affected the most. Bengal or other coastal states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha will not suffer much damage.
Here, as the cyclone moves towards the coastal areas, the mercury is also starting to rise. Kolkata recorded a maximum temperature of 38.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, three notches above normal, while Wednesday's minimum temperature was 29.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal. Due to this, people are also feeling the humid heat because the sky is cloudy and the hot air is not able to rise up.
